I'm not the type to give a book 5 stars, but this one deserves it for sure. Covering everything from pre-war Czech development to postwar conversions, this book is the encyclopedia of the Bren gun and its variants. Filled with illustrations, there isn't a single design facet that I can find as having been left out.
Especially interesting to me are the manufacturing pictures, showing the steps that a solid block of steel took to become a Bren receiver. Similar pictures are shown for each of the guns major components, something that I feel adds a great deal to the reading experience. While some Collector Grade books are hard to read, due to formatting, that is not an issue with the one. Everything is logically set up, and pleasing to the eye. The book does lack an index, for some reason, but a very well set up table of contents goes a long way towards rectifying this. The book is well bound out of quality paper, and will last a lifetime. I only wish that all firearms publications were this well done, but until they are, this book will shine out as an incredible jewel. If you have even a passing interest in the Bren, grab this book. Historically complete, yet disappointingBy Diogenes on September 16, 2013
Format: Hardcover
Immense amount of technical and historical detail about the Bren guns. Yet little information or hands-on details on its use. Also no mention of the South African/Lyttleton Brens, which were an interesting variant.
